The Penta Hospitals Clinical Research Centre at the New Hospital in Olkusz is launching operations in the field of psychiatry, marking a new strategic direction of development. This is an important step in response to the growing therapeutic needs of patients and the rapid progress in the treatment of mental health disorders.

Strategic development in psychiatry

The launch of research projects dedicated to patients with mental disorders forms the foundation for building a specialized, modern clinical research centre in the region. The goal is to actively participate in the development of innovative treatment methods while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Strong clinical infrastructure and access to patient populations

A key advantage of the Olkusz location is direct access to a broad patient population within the structure of the New Hospital and the on-site Mental Health Centre. This ensures continuity of care, efficient qualification for clinical trials, and close collaboration with teams that treat patients with mental disorders on a daily basis. The integration of research activity with real-world clinical practice increases the efficiency of recruitment processes and, most importantly, provides patients with access to innovative therapies in a familiar and safe medical environment.

Next-generation therapies – the perspective of psychedelic research

A particularly promising area of development in Olkusz is participation in next-generation therapy research, including projects involving the use of psychedelics in psychiatry. This area is being developed in accordance with rigorous regulatory standards.

These studies open new therapeutic possibilities, including in the treatment of:

  • treatment-resistant depression,
  • anxiety disorders,
  • post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD),
  • and many other conditions.

The ambition of the centre is to gradually build expertise and experience in this rapidly evolving segment of clinical research.

Strong expert and operational support

The Olkusz centre operates owing to on an experienced team of principal researchers and full operational support provided by the PI-House Clinical Research Centre.

The experience of the PI-House team in psychiatric research – including projects involving psychedelic therapies – has been successfully implemented in the new location. This includes:

  • specialized training for nurses, coordinators, and administrative staff,
  • implemented and validated quality standards,
  • strict regulatory oversight of ongoing projects,
  • procedures ensuring patient safety and comfort.

Unified Standards of Quality and Organization

We are developing the field of clinical research in psychiatry within the Penta Hospitals structure, drawing on the experience and operational expertise developed by the PI-House Clinical Research Centre in Gdańsk. The transfer of knowledge, proven organizational solutions, and practical team competencies allows us to safely and responsibly expand this specialization in other parts of Poland. Building a strong psychiatric clinical research area within Penta Hospitals is an important element of our long-term development strategy.

Direction for the future

In the longer term, there are plans to expand the research portfolio to include additional therapeutic areas within mental health. The development of the Olkusz centre is part of a long-term strategy to build a modern clinical research network, providing patients with access to innovative therapies and the highest quality medical care.

The Penta Hospitals Clinical Research Centre at the New Hospital in Olkusz is consistently strengthening its position as an important psychiatric research centre in the region – combining experience, high operational standards, and a forward-looking vision in the field of future therapies.
